Meet Our Family: Florence

Margaret and Emma is founded on the mission of helping rural women improve their lives by providing them with a means to make a living. Each artisan that works with us has a unique story. They are bold, they are determined, and they are valued. We cherish our family, and part of our mission is to share their stories.

Meet Florence:

Florence Gemere

Florence is the mother of nine; five boys and three girls. At 65 year old, Florence has worked very hard to support her family. Her youngest son is in secondary school.

Florence is a housewife who grows crops to feed her family. Her family has limited land so they aren’t able to grow surplus crops to sell. Florence relies on making crafts in order to pay for school fees and medical fees in addition to paying for other basic needs.

Being a part of a women’s group has allowed Florence to learn new skills while also creating a community of support with other rural women. She hopes that continued cooperation and collaboration will help women flourish.

Florence has been a part of the Margaret & Emma family for two years. She loves spending time with other group members, and is always smiling. We are proud to have Florence in the Margaret & Emma community.
