Meet the women of Nfasha

Veronica grew up working hard farming to help her family. She was forced to drop out of school after primary 5 (5th grade) because her family couldn’t afford her school fees. Veronica now has a family of her own. She grows crops and weaves baskets to support her four children. She hopes to one day buy her own piece of land and build a sturdy home for her family. Veronica makes our Nfasha baskets, and she makes hats for people in her community

Annet is a hardworking mother of three. She was married young after she was forced to drop out of school. Because of this, she makes her children's education a priority. She grows crops and weaves baskets to support her family. Being a part of a women's group has allowed her to learn new skills, and be a part of a strong community of women. "Without the group, I would not have learned crafts and would be forced to rely on crops for income. Now I have income even when our crops fail." The Nfasha

Gertrude, 27, loved school as a child. She was forced to drop out of school in 6th grade because she lacked funds. She is an orphan, and struggled to find a place she felt at home. Gertrude married when she was 19, and now has two children. She hopes to continue sending her children to school, and is also saving to buy livestock for her family. Gertrude farms and makes crafts to support her family. Gertrude makes our Nfasha baskets and trays.
