Ikumba Women's Group

Idah, 88, is an elderly widow who cares for her young grandchild. She is no longer able to grow crops, so she makes crafts to pay for food, medication, and fees for her grandchild. She lives next door to her sister wife, and fellow group member, Generoza. They work together to support their grandchildren. Idah weaves many different baskets.

Generoza, 95, is an elderly widow currently living alone. She lives next door to her sister wife Idah who helps her around the house. They work together to support their grandchildren. Generoza is no longer able to grow crops, so she relies on crafts to pay for food, medication, and other basic needs. Generoza makes various baskets.

Praxida was not able to attend school as a child, so she was put to work at an early age. She relied on growing crops to help her family. When Praxida had her own children, she struggled to support them. When she joined her local women's group, she learned new skills. She's been able to supplement her income and send her children to school. Praxida makes various baskets.
