Rovina is a member of the Hamuko group in Muko, Uganda. She was unable to attend school due to a disability. One of Rovina's legs failed to develop properly, making it difficult for her to walk. Growing up she struggled with feeling distanced from other children. Rovina is now 30, and has found acceptance within her community.

Rovina learned to weave baskets, and has become a master at her craft. She helps train new group members, and loves being a part of her community. Being a part of the group has allowed her to earn a steady income to support herself. She is able to pay for her basic needs, and is saving to buy land and construct a house near the road.

Below is an excerpt from our conversation with Rovina:

M&E: What do you like about being a part of a women's group?

Rovina: Acquiring skills to make quality products, teaching fellow women's groups to make crafts, and I now have money to support my life.

M&E: What are your goals for the future? How are you working to achieve those goals?

Rovina: I want to have a motorcycle which will ease transport. I've started practicing farming onions and Irish [potatoes], in addition to making baskets.

M&E: What advice would you give other women?

Rovina: I advise them to join women's groups for development. I advise my fellow [disabled] people to join the group in order to support themselves.

Margaret and Emma is founded on the mission of helping rural women improve their lives by providing them with a means to make a living. Rovina is a part of that mission. She is bold, she is determined, and she is valued. We are happy to have Rovina as a part of our family.
