Veronica is a member of the Nfasha group in Rubanda District, Uganda. After primary 5 (5th grade in the US), she had to drop out of school because her family couldn’t afford school fees. She worked growing crops for other families in order to help support her siblings.
Veronica now has four children of her own. She grows crops and makes baskets to pay for their basic needs, and send her children to school. She hopes that she can continue paying for their schooling through secondary school.
When we asked what her goals are for the future she said: “[My goals are] to build a sizable house, to send my children to school, and to buy my own land. I grow crops and weave so I can sell and earn income.”
Margaret and Emma is founded on the mission of helping rural women improve their lives by providing them with a means to make a living. Veronica is a part of that mission. She is bold, she is determined, and she is valued. We are happy to have Veronica as a part of our family.
