Meet Glorious

Margaret and Emma is founded on the mission of helping women improve their lives by providing them with a means to make a living. Glorious is a part of that mission. She is bold, she is determined, and she is valued. We are happy to have Glorious as a part of our family.

Meet Glorious:

Glorious Nagaba is a member of our newest group in Kabale, Uganda - the Kabale Women with Disabilities Group. The women in this group live in a community home that was established by the Ugandan government. Like many programs, the facility has lost funding, but the women continue to live and work with other families in the compound.

Glorious moved to the facility in 2004 in an effort to find a home that gave her a better sense of belonging. She quickly learned to make crafts from women in the community. Her biggest wish was to be a mother, and five years ago she was blessed with a son. shortly after giving birth, she was abandoned by the child's father and struggles to raise her son.

When asked about being a mother she said "it's good to be a mother. I just wish I could do much more so that I can ably take care of my son." When Glorious was a child, her legs did not develop normally, making it difficult to walk. Many of the group members were infected with Polio as children leaving them with a variety of health issues. "I don't know where my disability came from. I just grew up and found myself this way."

Being able to live in a community offers women like Glorious the opportunity to support each other in their day-to-day lives. They care for each other and make sure everyone is looked after. Unfortunately, the facility is run down, and hygiene is an issue. When government funding ran out, the community was left on its own. The group relies on funds from selling crafts to sustain themselves.

We hope that our new partnership will help to empower women like Glorious, and ensure they have a safe and clean place to live. We are honored to have Glorious as one of our many talented artisans.
