September 2018 brought many changes to Margaret & Emma. Natukunda Fortunate was hired as the Margaret & Emma lead in the Uganda office. She works hard to connect with groups in Uganda, fill and ship orders, and keep things organized. As we move into 2019, we want to tell you more about the amazing woman keeping everything running smoothly in Kabale, Uganda.

Fortunate grew up in Kabale, Uganda with her family. She was motivated in school and was even the head girl (student body president) in primary school. Growing up she saw the importance of education, and worked hard to succeed. At University, Fortunate studied Social Work with the intention of building up her community. Her graduate studies were in Monitoring & Evaluation, which have helped with interviewing and mentoring the women's groups.
We met Fortunate when she worked with our partners at Green Environmental Promotion (GEP). Fortunate left in order to pursue postgraduate studies. She cares deeply for the rural women, and wants to see them succeed.
In an effort to better equip the women with a variety of skills, Fortunate learned how to make most of the traditional products that our artisans produce. She helped start many of the GEP groups, and is currently working on forming new groups in other communities. We hope that with her leading our Ugandan office, we will be able to continue bringing you quality, meaningful products from rural communities.

Fortunate is the most compassionate, genuine, hard-working, driven young women we have met. No matter the issue, she fights with poise and dignity. She may be young, but she is wise beyond her years. We are beyond excited to have Fortunate working with us again, and have big plans for our new partnership.
